Hall Restorations in Murwillumbah

Hinterland houses, acreage blocks, and the big-rain wear pattern from Mount Warning to the river flats.

Northern Rivers home — descriptive placeholder until Josh supplies real photos

Murwillumbah is the hinterland side of Tweed Shire — bigger blocks, more rain, older homes, longer driveways, and a different exterior wear pattern than the coast. The salt's less of a factor; the moisture and the mould are more.

Murwillumbah’s wear pattern is moisture, not salt. The houses sit in higher rainfall, denser tree cover, and slower drying than anywhere on the coast — which means mould on render, mould on roofs, mould in gutters, and mould on the timber decking and steps.

The work we do most often in the hinterland: roof soft-wash, exterior soft-wash, gutter clean (with a much higher proportion of gum and rainforest-edge litter than coastal cocos), and longer driveway clean-and-seal jobs on acreage. Less driveway resealing in absolute terms, but the ones we do are larger.

The heritage and Federation-era homes around Murwillumbah are their own job. Original weatherboard, hand-painted detail, decorative bargeboards and fretwork. Painting or cleaning a heritage house with the same approach as a modern build will flatten out everything that makes it special. We slow down, hand-sand the details, soft-wash rather than pressure-clean, and use the right primer for what’s underneath. That work costs more per hour because it takes more hours, but you end up with a house that holds its character.

Flood season is its own thing. The Tweed has flooded badly in living memory and the cleanup work after a major event runs for weeks. We don’t price-gouge after a flood; we run the same rates and we work through the calls in order. If you’re a regular client, you get prioritised; if you’re new, we’ll tell you honestly when we can get there.

What we see most

Common Murwillumbah jobs

  • Roof and render mould from sustained humidity, particularly in shaded sections
  • Eucalyptus and rainforest-edge litter in gutters (different mix than coastal cocos)
  • Long acreage driveways with stained or weathered concrete
  • Boundary hedges and mature gardens that have been allowed to overgrow on larger blocks
  • River-silt and storm debris after Tweed flood events
  • Older homes with weatherboard that's been painted and repainted; finish quality matters more on the heritage houses

FAQ

Murwillumbah questions

Our house is older Federation-era weatherboard — can you handle the paint without damaging the original detail?

Yes. Older weatherboard with heritage detail needs a slower, more thoughtful approach — soft-wash for cleaning, hand-sanding rather than rotary, and the right primer for the substrate. We charge for the careful work, not the same as a modern build, but you end up with a house that looks like itself rather than a flattened-out version of it.

After a flood event, what should we be looking at for the exterior?

Once the water's back down: gutters and downpipes flushed of silt, exterior walls and lower fascia soft-washed to remove the silt line, driveways pressure-cleaned to lift the mud staining. Anything that was underwater long-term will need more than a clean — paint failure, render failure, timber damage. We'll walk through it with you and tell you straight what's cleanable vs what's a bigger repair.

Acreage block — can you do the whole property in one visit?

Usually yes, but the day will be longer or the crew bigger. Acreage is more setup time, more driveway, more gutter run-metres, more garden — but it's economic to do as a single visit rather than split. We quote per property after a walk-around.
